Meeting background
Major investments are being made in green energy technologies. Significant progress has been made but cost, technology and infrastructure challenges remain. One path to lower cost solutions is through standardization, wherever common elements exist across the various technologies. iNEMI is sponsoring a workshop to focus on those standardization gaps and technology challenges that can best be solved by the electronics industry, working in cooperation with the alternative energy sector.
The workshop will:
- Feature leaders from a number of green energy technology areas including wind, solar (PV, CPV, CSP, etc.), smart grid, energy storage (batteries, fuel cells, etc.), and power conditioning or power management (inverters, combiners, etc.).
- Identify technology gaps – primarily in the “balance of plant” area (i.e., those system elements surrounding the energy conversion core), where we believe an integrated collaborative electronics industry adds the most value.
- Examine opportunities for standardization in assembly, testing, reliability evaluation and similar areas of commonality.
- Brainstorm technology gaps, options and priorities.
- Establish action groups to address specific issues, based on outcomes of meeting.
Meeting objectives
- Identify the most likely areas where the electronics industry can have the greatest impact on closing alternative energy technology gaps.
- Within those selected areas, identify standardization issues and technology needs best solved by consortial activities.
- Form action groups to propose and execute the required collaborative programs.
Who should attend
Senior/middle management and senior technical leaders from the alternative energy/cleantech industry, research labs, government, regulatory bodies, and academia with responsibilities including:
- Component and system design
- Advanced technology development
- Product strategy and new business development
- Reliability assessment
- Regulatory compliance
- Packaging, assembly and test engineering
- Volume manufacturing
- Installation and maintenance
Benefits of participation
This meeting will set the priorities and direction for future collaborative programs for the electronics industry to address cost and technology issues in alternative energies. Your participation will allow you to help set this agenda for the industry and define collaborative programs. New business opportunities for the electronics industry may also be identified as we explore the challenges that are faced by green energy technology developers.
