How much your company can get out of iNEMI will correspond directly with how much you are willing to contribute. (It’s like a health club, if you don’t work out — or, in this case, participate — you don’t get the benefits). In addition to paying annual membership fees, your organization should be prepared to commit staff time, facility resources and, in some cases, materials and equipment to iNEMI efforts. The real value comes from active participation in roadmapping activities, implementation projects and industry forums. An even higher level of value (both for the individual as well as the company) can be achieved by individuals who take on leadership roles.
Because iNEMI is a virtual consortium, we rely on our members to do the bulk of the organization’s work. All projects are managed by the participating members, and all work is done at participants’ facilities and by their respective staffs. Some projects, for example, require hardware or software for testing and evaluation. These are provided by the project participants. Laboratories and testing facilities are also needed and, again, we turn to our members. And, of course, we need experienced professionals to actually perform project tasks.
NEMI’s approach certainly minimizes overhead costs and bureaucracy but, more importantly, it ensures greater involvement by member companies for maximum benefits, and guarantees that iNEMI focuses on the needs of industry. By providing staff, in-kind materials, services and solutions you are contributing to the success of iNEMI projects. At the same time, you are accelerating the learning curve for your organization to receive and integrate the results of projects.
