Cimetrix Gains SMT Market Share with Assembléon Order

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-May 29, 2002 - Cimetrix, Incorporated (OTC: CMXX) announced the signing of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement and shipment of CODE (Cimetrix Open Development Environment) software to Assembléon for use on their high-speed surface mount technology (SMT) machines. CODE is PC-based motion control software that provides cost-effective robust applications for motion intensive machines.

"CODE software provides Assembléon with a unique simulation environment and strong runtime that meets their performance and flexibility needs and is backed by our team of expert engineers," stated Dave Faulkner, executive vice president. "We have been working with the Assembléon development team on their designs for almost a year. Our software has enabled increased productivity by reducing the amount of new application software needed and significantly reducing development time."

SMT placement machines are constantly being upgraded and improved to respond to user demands for higher throughput and yield. Time to market and cost-efficiency are critical for the OEMs. CODE provides a flexible software solution that can adapt to the specific needs of each machine model but allows a high degree of re-use in the application software. Application software can be written in C, Visual C++, Visual Basic, Borland Delphi, or IEC-1131 PLC languages -- allowing a variety of programming options. This allows the OEMs to capitalize on their specific language expertise and enables them to develop robust software applications.

"Cimetrix has provided a quality software package and excellent support during our project," stated Dr. Cor Scholten, chief executive officer for Assembléon. "We enjoy working with partners like Cimetrix who have proven they can deliver on demanding projects. This was a good decision for all involved."

CODE conforms to the IEEE PR-1533 low-cost, open-architecture controller specification that provides for a uniform application programming interface to control industrial machinery. The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI), which is comprised of SMT end users and OEMs, developed this specification. The CODE PC-based control software is targeted at multi-axis motion intensive equipment such as component placement machines, assembly cells and robots.
