HERNDON, Va. - December 11, 2002 - The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI) today announced that seven companies have recently joined the industry-led consortium's efforts to strengthen the North American supply chain. The new members are: 3SAE Technologies Inc., Aerotech World Trade Ltd., Aurora Instruments Inc., E2open, LACE Technologies, Nextrom Photonics SA and Vytran Corporation.
"With the addition of these companies, NEMI membership is at an all-time high," said Jim McElroy, executive director and CEO of NEMI. "We believe that this is a reflection of our growing reputation for providing value to our members. We've launched numerous new initiatives, including a number of photonics/optoelectronics projects as well as follow-on efforts in the lead-free assembly area, and these projects have attracted several new companies to our ranks. The majority of our most recent members are participating in one or more of these new projects."
"The photonics industry must shift to efficient, cost-effective methods of manufacturing that produce high-yield, high-quality products at significantly reduced costs," said Eric Mies, president of Vytran Corporation. "We see NEMI as an ideal organization to help facilitate these changes and, in so doing, bring significant advancements to optoelectronic manufacturing."
"NEMI offers Aurora the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the photonics manufacturing industry in the area of fusion splicing methods and test procedures," said Laurence N. Wesson, president of Aurora Instruments. "Fiber splicing standards have typically been written by and for outside plant organizations, and photonics manufacturers often had to invent their own standards 'on the fly.' NEMI is working to develop new and uniform standards that can be accepted across the industry."
"E2open is eager to contribute to NEMI's initiatives focused on improving cross-company communications and process integration," said Mark Schenecker, vice president of product management. "In particular, supply chain and product lifecycle management communication efforts and emerging activities focused on manufacturing in China offer thought leadership opportunities that will ultimately help E2open better serve our customers in the electronics industry."
