Seven of the top 10 global PC manufacturers — who represent more than 50% of the worldwide market share for PCs — have set goals to phase out PVC where viable alternatives are identified. This project will help identify those alternatives with the following activities:
Phase 1 — conduct a cradle-to-grave lifecycle assessment (LCA) of PVC and PVC-free alternatives, with emphasis on power cord applications and connectors.
Phase 2 — establish an understanding of electrical, mechanical, and safety aspects of PVC-free alternatives; and develop, manage and execute performance testing of different PVC-free alternatives. The results from this project may for the basis for additional materiall assessment studies.
